Born in Salzburg, a resident of Vienna, a frequent guest of Prague, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart entered Czech musical history to remain a permanent bulwark of Czech culture.
The first time Mozart visited Prague in January, 1787, he conducted the Wedding of Figaro and was very much applauded. After his incredible success, the composer stated the now famous words: „My dear Praguers understand me!“
Mozart came back still three times to Prague. On October 29, 1787, Don Giovanni, the opera of operas, was presented for the first time at all.
Whoever wishes to recreate Mozart´s life in Prague first turns his footsteps towards the Bertram Villa, a charming Baroque house where the composer sejourned. Nowadays it is used for concerts and there is also a nice Mozart Museum. In the heart of the Old Town you can see the house At the Three Lions Cubs where Mozart stayed rather shortly. At the end of the same street, very close to his apartment, Mozart worked in the Estate Theatre where Don Giovanni had its first performance. On the hill nearby the Prague Castle there is the Strahov Monastery where Mozart was fond of going to improvise on the three-manual organ in the church. And it is not possible to drop the visit of the St. Nicholas Church in the Lesser Town, the place of the first in Europe mass said after the Mozart´s death.
