In years 1740-1820 the Sychrov Castle belonged to Wallenstein family, one of the most powerful aristocratic families in Bohemia, and played an important role on the northern border of Czech lands. After 1820 they sold the manor to the marshal Charles Allain Rohan.
Due to the French noble family Rohans the Sychrov Castle in the northern Bohemia has its romantic appeareance. This family came to this region after the French Revolution and maybe the castle had to remind them their lost native country…In the castle there are extraordinary valuable collections of original furnishings, ceramics and French portrait paintings – it is the most important of this kind out of France. Behind the castle you should walk in the wonderful park with exotic trees and romantic constructions. In the end of the 19th century Czech composer A. Dvořák spent his holidays in Sychrov. That´s way you can visit a small exhibition about Dvořák´s life.
The castle is located in a very nice landscape. In 1947 large caves were discovered there and opened for visitors. There are two parts in caves, in the first one you will admire an interesting decoration of stalactites, in the second part you will see the largest underground lake in the Czech Republic (24x16 m).
